FIFA to Launch 2026 World Cup Ticketing Program This September
Football fans worldwide can soon begin planning their North American adventure
Zurich, Switzerland - FIFA has announced it will officially launch the ticketing program for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this September, giving football fans their first opportunity to secure seats for the largest-ever edition of football's premier tournament.
Expanded Tournament Means More Opportunities
The 2026 World Cup, to be hosted across 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded format with 48 teams competing in 104 matches - a significant increase from the traditional 32-team, 64-match format.
"This will be the most accessible World Cup in history," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. "With more matches across more venues, we're creating unprecedented opportunities for fans to experience the magic of the World Cup live in stadiums."
Phased Ticketing Approach
The ticketing program will roll out in several phases:
- September 2023: Initial ticket portal launch and registration
- November 2023: First random selection draw for ticket packages
- Early 2024: Team-specific ticket options become available
- Mid-2025: Last-minute single match tickets released
Host Cities Preparing for Influx
The 16 host cities, ranging from New York/New Jersey to Guadalajara to Vancouver, are already preparing infrastructure to accommodate what FIFA projects will be record-breaking attendance numbers. The 1994 World Cup in the U.S. still holds the total attendance record at 3.6 million.
How to Prepare
Fans interested in attending are advised to:
- Create a FIFA account in advance
- Decide on preferred host cities and match types
- Review visa requirements for the host nations
- Monitor FIFA's official channels for exact launch dates
The September launch will mark the beginning of a three-year countdown to the tournament, which kicks off June 11, 2026, with the final scheduled for July 19.
